The Alburnett Community School District will provide educational opportunities which enable students to become confident, competent, and responsible contributors to society.

By providing quality education to the 640 students K-12 in the Alburnett Community schools, being acquainted with families as well as the students , by preparing students today for the challenges and opportunities ahead of them tomorrow the faculty can be very proud of the success of our students-over 70 percent of Alburnett students continue their education following graduation. (The preceding are excerpts from the District’s web site.)

           FBLASCORE Joint-Venture

                Alburnett High School

                Linn-Mar High School

Our mission: Augment classroom with real world experience!

The immediate benefit of such an endeavor is to prepare the students for Regional and State Competitions.  These multi-layer exercises delve into nearly all of the topics that will be encountered by an individual attempting to develop, start-up, run and grow a business in today’s world.  Now that Linn-Mar has joined Alburnett in these opportunites we look for both increased competition and educational prospects.

Ultimately we feel that this collaboration will give the FBLA and the business programs a head start on creating more knowledgeable and better prepared business people for the future.  We also believe that not every individual is suited to or desires to open and run a business.  But just like so many subjects that are required in the educational process, the body of work we do here will give tomorrows consumer, worker and entrepreneur a more complete understanding of their place in the world. This is truly a win-win situation.

In the broadest sense, we are shaping a better future for us all.  Academic curriculum, being a structured atmosphere, can not replicate the truly personal nature of business enterprise. The collaboration of SCORE’s seasoned Mentors and the Academic world brings the subject matter into the real world. In addition, the brain drain that the Midwest is experiencing may be curtailed a bit by having tomorrow’s leaders better prepared for success. This will encourage them to stay at home rather that migrate to larger population centers.

SCORE Goal: Help the students win!

Since we will be working, one on one, and in small groups we will be able to provide much more in-depth education.  With the proper use of time we will allow for students clarifying questions. In fact, multiple sessions will be in order to handle the subject matter. This will insure that each session(s) meets expectations.

SCORE Volunteers to be involved in the Outreach

The names and biographies of each will appear as we finalize preparation and scheduling of each topic.

One of the major tutoring methods used will be question and answer sessions with each team.  We will have at our disposal approximately 200 sample questions similar to those used during preliminary competion eliminations. Each team will vie against the others in an attempt to garner the best score possible.  Although the purpose of these sessions are competition preparation much on the information covered will be valuable in the students future lives.

This brings us to the session plan. We will structure each meeting following these basic steps:

  • Introduction of the basics of each topic

  • A short synopsis of each Mentor’s experience and skills

  • Detail the method of handling the question and answer sessions

  • Explain how we handle added pertinent subjects concerning the topic

  • Try to move quickly/thoroughly, avoiding extraneous material

  • Insure that each session covers the answers to the sample questions

  • Record progress, take a list of students present, with e-mail

  • Report any issues, list any problems, and detail any questions that were unanswered
